UEA Team

  • Ainara Ruiz González

    Ainara Ruiz is a third-year student from Bilbao, Spain, but she is currently doing her year abroad studies at the University of East Anglia. She is a Modern Language student and speaks five languages: English, Spanish, and Basque fluently, and basic French and Chinese. She joined SAAM because part of her future career ambitions involve translating literary content and subtitling, however, her main goals with SAAM are to join a community of passionate language students and future translators, and also to help those charities and organizations to reach a broader public.

  • Ana Badica

    Ana is currently studying the MA in Applied Translation Studies at UEA. Being Romanian meant that in school she would be exposed to not only English as a second language, but also to an array of French, German and Spanish. This multicultural environment really drove her to love languages, which was one of the reasons she chose to study Japanese! She decided to be involved in the SAAM Project as she has recently discovered an interest in anything to do with subbing and dubbing, and she wanted to find a position in which her work would make a difference for someone, in this case for the deaf and HoH communities. Outside of my work for SAAM, she is an amateur writer, and a bookworm with a great love for the written word, and is passionate about spreading this love throughout the world.

  • Ana Miranda Olvera

    Ana is an international student from Spain. She is a third year Modern Languages student who seeks to sharpen her skills in translation. She wanted to join SAAM because she sees it as an opportunity to gain experience at a professional level, while helping other people and contributing to society. In her free time she enjoys reading, watching movies or TV shows, and drawing. She wishes for a job that helps her connect people and cultures from different parts of the world.

  • Andrea Naranjo Ferrer

    Andrea is a visiting student from Spain. She is in her third year of Translation and Interpreting English-French in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. She wanted to join SAAM because she sees it as a great oportunity to experience working in a team at a more professional level. She has always been very keen on movies and shows, that is why she would love her career having to do with it, and professional subtitling would be her dreamed job. Languages are key for transmiting and receiving information and essential for communication. Andrea believes that we all deserve to know what is happening in other places in the world and that is another reason why she wants to help in this project.

  • Camilo Aranguren Rincon

    Camilo is in their final year studying Modern Languages at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and is from Colombia. They are looking forward to this opportunity as a SAAM volunteer and to develop their confidence translating. They are also looking forward to meeting people from other universities with similar interest and career paths. Outside of university, Camilo enjoys playing games and watching series.

  • Claramae Jones

    Claramae is a third year Literature with Creative Writing student. They are continuing to volunteer with the SAAM project because she finds subtitles necessary in her own life and wants to be a part of making the resource more available for others. Outside of university, they travel a lot, and enjoy learning as much about other languages and cultures as possible.

  • Dominik Wątroba

    Dominik is a visiting student from Poland, where he studies the Polish language and communication at Jagiellonian University. He is keen on linguistics and aspects connected with translating. In his free time he delivers English lessons to speakers of other languages. As well as Polish and English, he also speaks French and learns Russian and BSL. He joined the SAAM project to become a member of a community working towards inclusion and media accessible to everyone.

  • Ellena Fox

    Ellena is a 2024 BA (Hons) Translation, Media and Modern Language graduate. A physiotherapist for more than thirty years, she is now in the process of diversifying her career to become a translator, specialising in medical texts, from French to her native English. However, due to her other interests and knowledge she hopes to expand into other domains such as cooking, gardening, the environment and agriculture. Being involved with the SAAM project is a wonderful opportunity to explore the world of translation in one of its many forms to make texts more accessible to others.

  • Emma Blasco Royo

    Emma is a visiting student from Zaragoza, Spain, where she is an English Studies student. In her free time she enjoys travelling and spending time with her friends and family. She joined the SAAM project because she is interested in translation, and participating in this project would be a great opportunity for her to learn new skills and, use later in her career.

  • Eva Steiner

    Eva is originally from Austria but moved to Norwich to study at UEA, where she completed a BA in Japanese language and an MA in Literary Translation. She has been volunteering for SAAM since 2018, pausing only for her year abroad. She feels passionate about subtitling and enjoys collaborating with her fellow volunteers. Eva believes in the SAAM Project's mission of making media a little bit more accessible, one video at a time, and is proud of the work she has done and continues to do for SAAM. What she likes most about the project is knowing that the subtitles she helps produce are not just for practice but will benefit real people. Dr Carlos de Pablos-Ortega and his SAAM Project have really sparked a passion in Eva, and she now works as a subtitler full time.

  • Gemma Cáceres García

    Gemma is a visiting student from Alicante, Spain. There, she studies Translation and Interpreting mainly in English, Spanish and French, but also speaks Catalan natively and has done part of her studies in Italian. She wanted to join SAAM because she wants to enhance her knowledge in the translation and subtitling process of videos and expand her interest in film watching. She also sees it as an opportunity of being part of a working team that will enhance her knowledge in the team and that will provide her of new ways of learning and working in the professional world.

  • Grace Bennett

    Grace is an Applied Translation Master's Student at UEA, with a degree in Modern Language: Japanese. She has also studied BSL, and is keen to help spread acccess to media within deaf communities through the SAAM project. With a background in primary education, Grace understands the need for greater inclusion and accessibility in society, and hopes to help make a difference, even for just one person, through this project. When not studying, Grace enjoys reading, journalling, and Japanese idol oshikatsu.

  • Inés Cabrera Guerra

    Inés is a visiting student from Spain. She is in her third year of Translation and Interpreting English-French in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. She wanted to join SAAM because she sees it as a wonderful oportunity to enter the world where she wants to be professional in, that is subtitling. She has always enjoyed watching films and series in other languagues, and imagining how it is transmited what is said from one languague to another. That is why she wanted to study languagues, because for her, languagues and their different cultures are the key for communication and understanding. She also sees this oportunity as a big step into the professional world, individually and as a team, and also as a great chance to personal growth.

  • Kamile Kairyte

    Kamile moved from Lithuania 6 years ago with no knowledge of English, and now she is thriving as a Psychology student at UEA. Additionally, she is learning Spanish and Russian. Her interest in volunteering led her to join the SAAM project, where she is excited to use her bilingual skills to help others enjoy and access various audiovisual content. Kamile is eager to contribute to making media more inclusive, ensuring everyone can engage and feel connected.

  • Keely Pine

    Keely is a third year studying Intercultural Communication and Business Management and is from Norwich. Keely took Spanish and French in her first year and enjoys talking too and learning from different cultural backgrounds. She wants to volunteer for the SAAM project as she wants to gain more experience on subtitling, wants to build connections with new people through the charites that will be supported, she also wants to take the chance to practise her Spanish again. Outside of university, Keely works at the local hosptial as a healthcare assistant and phelbotomist. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her four year old son and trying to teach him Spanish so he can grow up bilingual, listening to music and going to the gym.

  • Kendra Payne

    Kendra is currently studying for a BA(Hons) in History. She is passionate about accessibility, especially within the Hertiage Sector, and is keen to learn about the process of subtitling videos. In her free time, Kendra loves reading and visiting new places.

  • Lauren Daniels

    Lauren is a second year modern languages student (French and Spanish) at UEA. She is using her degree to navigate the different fields in which she can use languages and believes the SAAM Project is another great opportunity to do so. Learning languages has always been a passion for Lauren and so she is excited to delve into this project and work with the team. She believes that this experience will be vital to her career and help her to understand the subtitling process whilst building relations in the languages community.

  • Madoka Ogawa

    Madoka is from Japan and is currently studying a Master's degree in Medical and Health Humanities. She participated in several translation projects in Japan and has work experience as a medical translator. Based on her experience, she loves helping people through language, which is why she wanted to join the SAAM project. Outside of her studies, she enjoys listening to music and making traditional Japanese crafts called Tsumamizaiku.

  • Maohong Yuan

    Maohong is currently studying Applied Translation Studies at UEA, focusing on English and Chinese. Before this, she had not formally studied translation, as her undergraduate degree was in a non-language field. However, she developed a strong interest in translation by watching online courses, where she discovered its unique charm as both a linguistic art and a bridge between cultures. Maohong wanted to join SAAM because she has gained some knowledge in translation but recognize there is still much to learn. She sees SAAM as a valuable opportunity to further develop her skills through practice experience and teamwork. She looks forward to learning, growing, and contributing to the team.

  • Martin Illera

    Martin is a full-time postgraduate student of the Applied Translation Studies program at the UEA. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages, and is interested in translating from and to English, Spanish and, to a lesser degree, French. Martin joined SAAM because he wants to learn how to subtitle and to combine his skills with his group's. Among his hobbies are reading, contact sports, and dancing.

  • Natalia Martínez Camacho

    Natalia is a visiting student from Mexico. She is in her last year of her undergraduate degree of 'Translation' at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She is specializing in the fields of Audiovisual and Scientific Translation. Natalia wants to be part of the SAAM Project not only to keep practicing her knowledge in subtitling, but also to help charitable and non-profit organizations. She has participated in similar translation projects at her home university to help organizations and people with different needs. She wants to keep taking part in projects that have a social impact.

  • Natalia Solovjova

    Natalia is a third year Modern Languages student, studying Spanish. She got to learn about subtitling during her second year and really enjoyed it. She was really upset that she couldn't retake the module again. She is volunteering for the SAAM project because she wants to continue practicing subtitiling and translation and, hopefully, persue a career in this field of work.

  • Olivia Brooks-Merino

    Olivia (Olive) is a second year International Relations and Modern Languages student, studying Spanish and German. She decided to do the SAAM project because there are many key transferable skills to gain from subtitling and believes learning to translate between languages really elevates the knowledge and understanding of both languages.

  • Selin Maelgar

    Selin is in their first year studying Translation, media and Japanese. Selin's interests include reading, writing, medicine, playing the piano, learning languages and spending time with their yorkshire terrier. Selin would like to be part of SAAM because they strongly admire the project's focus on making media more accessible to audience members with visual and auditory impairments from the beginning. As an aspiring translator and subtitler, I am furthermore looking forward to gaining practical experience in the field.

  • Signe Fernström

    Signe is an exchange student from Sweden who is studying English literature and linguistics at her home university in Lund, and is taking the opportunity to study translation and subtitling during her semester at UEA.

  • Soeli Leverett

    Soeli is a part-time student at UEA studying her MA in Applied Translation Studies. She completed her undergraduate at the University of Nottingham where she studied Modern Languages and Translation (French and Spanish). Her degree has allowed her to visit and live in France and Spain, working in a nursery and a translation company. Soeli is passionate about languages and translation, and along with taking part in the SAAM project, she also volunteers as a French to English translator for the website WatchingAmerica. Soeli wanted to be part of the SAAM project because she thoroughly enjoyed the subtitling and dubbing module that she undertook in her undergraduate, and she knows that subtitling, translation, and/or project management is the career route that she would like to go down in the future, so working with SAAM will give her a chance to gain experience in this field.

  • Victoria Andréu Pérez-Rubio

    Victoria is a visiting student from the University Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain. She's a third year Translation and Interpreting student and she's doing her year abroad at UEA in Norwich. She studies English and French, and on her free time she likes reading and spending time with her friends and family. She decided to volunteer for the SAAM project because she wants to improve her translation skills and to learn about subtitling in case she specialises on this field in the future. 

  • Walter Keegan

    Walter is a fourth year Modern Languages student returning from a year abroad in Lyon, France. They are continuing as a volunteer this semester and are really looking forward to getting started! Outside of university, he loves to explore the outdoors through runnning, hiking and mountain biking. He also spends a little too much time sailing on the south coast!

  • Xiaoli Zhu

    Xiaoli is currently studying for a MA in Applied Translation Studies, with a focus on EN-CH translation. She hopes to become a part of SAAM to further improve her skills in using subtitling tools. She understands that there are many outstanding talents in the field, and she believes that being part of SAAM's collaborative and detail-oriented environment could provide her with valuable opportunities to grow and contribute in a more meaningful way.

  • Heng Yeh Yee

    Heng Yeh is a writer-translator from Malaysia who is studying MA Creative Writing Poetry at UEA. As someone who enjoys and admires good subtitling, particularly in the context of today's globalised media and Malaysia's multilingual communities, he has volunteered for the SAAM Project as he is interested in the intersection between translation and accessibility. v

  • Joseph Tonkin

    Joe recently graduated from UEA in Modern languages with Japanese. He was one of our SAAM Project coordinators last semester. He's currently preparing his return to Japan to start teaching English but he hopes to eventually enter the translation industry for video games. Joe is looking forward to taking part in SAAM through his change in role from coodinator to volunteer.

  • Irene Gómez Alberto

    Irene has graduated in English Studies at the University of Zaragoza, in Spain, after completing her education at French school. She has done an Erasmus programme at the University of East Anglia and applied as a volunteer for the SAAM project because she wants to gain experience in translation and be a translator in the future. She is now doing a Master's degree in Audiovisual Translation in Valencia, where she later hopes to find a job. Outside of uni, Irene likes to travel, subtitle Attenborough's nature documentaries, and make stop-motion films with LEGOs.

  • Lydia Sparrow

    Lydia is a 2024 BA Hons graduate in Japanese Language with a strong passion for Japanese culture, language, and translation. She had the incredible opportunity to study abroad at Kansai University in Osaka, Japan, for 12 months in 2023, where she immersed herself in the language and culture. Throughout her degree, Lydia has gained valuable experiences, from teaching in Osaka to engaging in translation work. In addition to her academic pursuits, Lydia enjoys crochet and crafting, which allow her to express her creativity. She is eager to expand her knowledge and gain further experience in translation, while also exploring the intersection of language and art.

  • Katie Barrett

    Katie is a third year student currently studying abroad at the autonomous university of Madrid. She took part in the SAAM project in the 2nd semester of her second year at UEA and enjoyed it so much that she decided to get involved again, remotely. Her degree is modern language Spanish and she hopes to go on to work in subtitling and dubbing when she graduates in 2025.

  • Kayleigh Perrin

    Kayleigh is a second year student studying Modern Languages (French & Spanish) at UEA. This is her first time volunteering for the SAAM Project, however being very interested in translation, she is very excited to be a part of such an amazing project and hopes that she will learn new skills that will transfer to her degree, and further into her career. Although she is not sure in what form she would like to work with translation in her career, she is positive that the SAAM Project will help this to become clear for her. She feels very passionate about the fact that the SAAM Project is able to provide such vital support, to charities and NGOs that may not have adequate funding, so as to create subtitles for foreign and deaf/hard of hearing audiences.

  • Ana Rodriguez Benito

    Ana is a visiting student from Seville, Spain. She is studying Translation and Interpretation of English and French. Ana is spending the whole year in Norwich and is looking forward to learning the language and of course testing and improving her translation skills. In her free time, Ana loves travelling and spending time with her friends.

  • Clarice Marchal

    Clarice is a student from UEA currently studying Translation and Interpretation Spanish-French. She is in her third year and currently on her year abroad in Chile. She did a module on subtitling in her 2nd year and enjoyed it.This pushed her to volunteer for the SAAM project because she thought it would be a good opportunity to gain experience and have a better understanding of how subtitling work functions. She wishes to gain more skills in the audiovisual domain as it is an ever growing industry.  

  • Harry Russell

    Harry is a first year UEA student studying modern languages with dual honours of French and Spanish. He is volunteering for the SAAM project as he had heard about it in his first term at uni and is interested in learning more about how subtitling software works and developing his knowledge of the translation process. He also  looks forward to being able to help make media more accessible for everyone. 

  • Akari Izumi

    Akari is from Japan and is studying translation at UEA in Applied Translation course. In her undergraduate studies in Japan, she learned basic translation theories and researched comparative translation between English and Japanese. She wants to be part of the SAAM project for the great opportunity to improve her translation skills and contribute to an organisation as a volunteer.

  • Alice Killby

    Alice graduated from UEA in 2023 with a Ba in Modern Languages with Management Studies. Since graduating, she has been working in Spain as an English Language Assistant with British Council. She was a coordinator for the project in Spring 2023 and is looking forward to returning as a volunteer. What she enjoys the most about volunteering with the SAAM Project is the opportunity to continue using her language skills, and she appreciates the project's work, making media more accessible to others.

  • Ainhoa Cabrera Serrano

    Ainhoa is in her final year of her bachelor's degree studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá (Madrid). In 2023, she had the opportunity to complete her Erasmus programme in Finland, where she was able to combine her passions. Here, she helped in different language classes from English to Swedish, and learned from a range of different teaching methods.

    She is currently studying Audiovisual Translation, where she has been introduced to the world of subtitling and dubbing, which has sparked a great interest in her. This is why she decided to take part in the SAAM project, where she can now participate in and enjoy an enriching collaboration with her colleagues in other cultures as well as helping other minorities to gain access to material adapted to their needs.

  • Alicia de la Cal

    Alicia is from Valladolid, Spain. She is 21 years old and studies Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She was studying audiovisual translation when she discovered the SAAM project and decided to take part so that she could learn more about the world of subtitling and collaborate with other people from around the world to help organisations with sharing their content with more and more people. She is very excited about the teamwork involved in working for this project.

  • Alicia Patón García

    Alicia Patón García is studying Modern Languages and Translation at UAH. Last year, she completed a subtitling module led by Carlos de Pablos, and this module opened up a whole new world that she had never thought of before. This is why she decided to participate in the SAAM project, to learn and gain experience in this field whilst also helping other people and, maybe, finding a career in audiovisual translation in the future.

  • Angela Medida Medina

    Ángela is a student from the University of Alcalá (UAH) where she studies Modern Languages with Translation. When she first heard about the SAAM project, she immediately knew that she has had to get involved. Having taken part in language related volunteer projects in the past, she thought it would be a great opportunity to relive such an amazing experience. On an academic level, she loves audiovisual translation and believes that the project is an amazing opportunity to learn whilst helping others. On a personal level, as someone who is disabled, she understands how difficult it is to live in a world full of barriers, this is why she want to help to eliminate as many of those barriers as possible. She believes that one day, everything will be truly accessible to everyone.

  • Carla Valentín Viejo

    Carla Valentín Viejo is 21 years old and currently studying in the fourth year of her undergraduate degree of Modern Languages and Translation (EN-DE>ES) at the University of Alcalá de Henares (UAH). She has always been interested in learning languages and about different cultures and her special interest in translation was what made her decide to do this degree. Audiovisual translation is one of the disciplines which interests her the most, and she finds that this experience will give her invaluble experience that will help her to improve her skills as well as to grow personally. Her bookshelves are full of books and in her spare time, she likes to explore new worlds and realities through reading.

  • Claudia del Saz Escaso

    Claudia is a second year student from Spain, who is currently studying the degree of Modern Languages and Translation in English and French, in Alcalá de Henares University (UAH). She joined the SAAM project as regards of her motivation to gain a wider point of view of the world of Translation, and hence how it works. She loves languages and all aspects related to them, and considering the increased importance of technologies nowadays, she believes that this project is a great opportunity to get deeper in this field and improve as well. Furthermore, she loves rock and pop music, cinema and go out with friends.

  • Diana Michon

    Diana is studying Modern Languages with Translation at the University of Alcalá (Madrid). She decided to volunteer for SAAM because it would be a great opportunity for her to learn new skills and improve her translation. She hopes to contribute to the organisation of the team and learn a bit more about audiovisual translation. She is interested in learning about different cultures and languages and will do her best using her knowledge of English, Spanish, Polish, and French.

  • Henar Martín Pérez

    Henar studies Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. He loves languages and translation, and would like to be an interpreter in the European Union. It was his interest in different areas of translation that led him to take part in this project. He decided to work with SAAM so that he could put his knowledge of languages into practice and help organisations to make their messages more accessible, and to eliminate language barriers.

  • José Alcolea Crespo

    José is originally from Valencia, Spain, and has recently settled in London on an indefinite basis. He graduated in Modern Languages and Translation (English and French) from the University of Alcalá in 2024. Attracted by the mission of the SAAM project, he joined as a volunteer last year and is enthusiastic about developing his skills in audiovisual translation to improve the accessibility of content. With an eye on his professional future in the field of audiovisual translation, he is also expanding his knowledge by studying Fus'ha (Modern Standard Arabic) and exploring the fundamentals of Python, recognising its practical applications in linguistics and translation.

  • Lucía Martínez Vado

    Lucía is from Cuenca, and lives in Alcalá de Henares for her studies. She is a fourth-year student of Modern Languages and Translation (English and French) at the University of Alcalá. She is very interested in the field of audiovisual translation, especially subtitling, and she intends to continue training in this area. This is the reason why she signed up for the SAAM project, to continue learning about audiovisual translation and at the same time help the collaborating organisations so that more people can discover the work they do.

  • María López Martínez

    María is from Seville. This year she completed a degree in Translation and Interpretation in German and English at the Pablo de Olavide University. She is currently studying a Master's in Audiovisual Translation at Instituto Superior de Estudios Lingüísticos y Traducción (Higher Institute of Linguistic Studies and Translation). This is her second semester as a volunteer for SAAM, a project she loves because it allows her to learn and gain experience in the world of audiovisual translation which interests her so much.

  • María Muñoz Mora

    María is 18 years old and comes from a small town in Toledo. Last year she finished high school in humanities, and is now in her first year at university studying Modern Languages and Translation in Alcalá de Henares. Since she was little, she has loved languages, and she has always wanted to choose a profession that involves helping others. Until now she had not found options that she liked related to the use of foreign languages. Until she attended the audiovisual translation workshop, and they told her about the SAAM Project. A project in which she saw that her knowledge of languages could be of help to the deaf community. In addition, it opened a new front for her: it made her discover that she loves the field of subtitling, so she would like to be able to do some job where she can carry out this work in the future. She is volunteering for this project with great enthusiasm and a desire to continue her education, to get in touch with other students with similar ambitions to hers and to contribute her grain of sand to this project. She never thought that she would be so close to the opportunity to use the languages that she is passionate about in something that could help socially, as The SAAM project has offered her.

  • María Rodríguez Iglesias

    Maria is a fourth-year student of Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá in Spain. She learned about the SAAM Project through a subtitling workshop offered at the university, was immediately interested in its purpose, and thanks to this, decided to participate. She loves using her creativity in translation and getting to know cultures through language. Outside of university, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, reading, listening to music, and visiting interesting museums and exhibitions.

  • Marta Moreno Navarrete

    Marta is a student of Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá, with a strong commitment to overcome linguistic barriers and make each word reach its audience without losing its essence. During her last year of her internship, she had the opportunity to help as coordinator of the SAAM project, an experience that allowed her to contribute to more stories being told and heard, something she considers essential in the world of communication.

  • Mihaela Porusniuc

    Mihaela is originally from Romania but has been living in Spain for 17 years and is currently studying a degree in Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. Apart from being a student, Mihaela has musical and theatrical interests, studying drums and being part of the adult theatre group in the town where she lives. Since her previous jobs included customer service and languages, this volunteering project, for her, fits like a glove, as well as allowing her to hone her translation skills.

  • Pascal Lozoya Tutard

    Pascal is in the fourth year of a degree in Translation and Modern Languages at the Guadalajara Campus of the University of Alcalá. Curious is one of the adjectives that best describes him. He also loves learning new things, from the healthcare field to the legal and commercial fields.

    Some of the things that motivate him to participate in the SAAM project are the use of subtitling tools, translation and languages. He also wants to be a professional translator in the future, so SAAM will be able to provide him with great experience for the future.

    It is also worth mentioning his passion for sports, where he has competed in federal and university leagues. Now he is competing in powerlifting, constantly surpassing himself, a motto that he carries with him in everything.

  • Paula Bregón López

    Paula is a graduate of Modern Languages and Translation and currently specialises in the localisation of websites, applications and video games. Spanish is her native language, and she has an advanced level of English (C1), as well as solid knowledge of German (B2) and Korean (TOPIK 4).

    During an audiovisual translation workshop, she learned about the SAAM project, which caught her attention from the start. This project gives her the opportunity to develop a specialisation that she is passionate about, as well as offering her the opportunity to help charitable causes and support communities in vulnerable situations. Through this experience, she hopes to contribute her knowledge and contribute to projects with a significant impact.

  • Rosario Velázquez

    Rosario is in the final year of her degree in Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She discovered the SAAM Project in an audiovisual translation workshop given by Carlos and, motivated by her interests, decided to become a volunteer. After one term, she was given the opportunity to become a coordinator for the Spring 2025 semester. She is excited about this new challenge, as it will allow her to facilitate access to audiovisual content for charities and NGOs. She also sees it as a great opportunity to gain experience in project management and in the field of audiovisual translation, which was previously unknown to her.

  • Sofía Méndez Espinoza

    Sofía Mendez is Peruvian and lives in Madrid. She graduated from the University of Alcalá with a degree in Modern Languages and Translation (EN>ES). She decided to take part in the SAAM project because it is a great opportunity to continue learning and at the same time help the non-profit organisations that the project collaborates with. She really hopes that in the future, thanks to the efforts of all the translators participating in this project, it will be possible to truly help the people who need it.

  • Teresa Rodríguez Florez

    Teresa is a final year student of Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. She got to know SAAM through a workshop organized by Carlos and quickly fell in love with the world of audiovisual translation. After participating in the project as a volunteer in the first semester, she was lucky enough to be able to be part of it but this time as a coordinator. She sees this project as a great opportunity to get into the world of audiovisual translation as well as a way to help those with fewer resources or who find themselves in difficult situations. On the other hand, Teresa loves movies (especially musicals), music and spending time with her loved ones.

  • Valeria Calvo Gómez

    Valeria is 21 years old and is currently studying Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá and is in her fourth year. She’s always loved languages and that is one of the reasons she wanted to study translation. Her second languages are English and French, however, due to an interest in Asian cultures she decided to start learning Korean. She thinks that participating in this project is a great opportunity to learn more about translation, especially audiovisual translation which is the type she is very interested in.

  • Verónica Redondo Astilleros

    Verónica is in the final year of her degree in Modern Languages and Translation at the University of Alcalá. During her Erasmus year at UEA, she discovered the SAAM Project, and decided to take part as a project coordinator. She is passionate about audiovisual translation as wel as translation software. In her spare time she plays the tuba as a member of the Municipal Band of Daimiel, her home town. Her love for translation knows no bounds, but she feels a special connection with audiovisual translation, as film and audiovisual productions have always been one of her great passions. She firmly believes in the power of language to connect cultures and in the magic of a good adaptation to convey emotions in the most authentic way possible.

  • Victoria Rodríguez Moreno

    Victoria is from Seville, Spain. She graduated in Translation and Interpreting from the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville and is currently studying a Master's Degree in Specialised Scientific-Technical Translation at the University of Córdoba. She collaborated as a volunteer translator at SOS Racismo for several months and decided to join SAAM Project with the aim of using her passion for translation to help non-profit organisations.

  • Silvia Hernández Rodríguez

    Silvia Hernández Rodríguez is a fourth year student of Modern Languages and Translation at UAH. She would love to be part of the SAAM Project's team of volunteers, as she thinks it does very important social work in terms of inclusiveness and, at the same time, it is a good opportunity to improve her skills and gain experience as a translator.

  • Amel Kebli

    Amel is in her third year and is studying Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Culture at the University of Lorraine in Nancy. She has always wanted to become a translator after she has finished her studies. She has studied English for over 10 years, and Spanish for more than 3 years. Next, she would like to learn Japonese, German and lots of other languages. Becoming a volunteer and Intern for the SAAM project means that she has the opportunity to combine many things that are close to her heart, including translation and charity work. Outside of her studies, Amel likes video games, reading, music and walking in the forest.

  • Andrew Ait-Said

    Andrew is a second-year master’s student of Anglophone Studies at the University of Lorraine. He has joined the SAAM Project to gain some professional translation experience, as well as doing his bit for equity and universal access to information.

  • Angy Bioli

    Angy BIOLI is in the first year of his Masters in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations English-German, specialising in Translation and Translatology. He is passionate about foreign languages, especially Chinese and Japonese. He also loves swimming, literature, video games, as well as intercultural exchanges! After a year of studying in the US, he decided to take part in this project to gain experience and to be able to use his two strong languages.

  • Anneth-Véronica Sibaja-Noskova

    Anneth Sibaja Noskova was born in San José in Costa Rica. She is currently in the 2nd year of her undergraduate in Foreign and Regional Language, Literature and Civilisations Russian- English at the University of Lorraine. Anneth likes Latin American literature, fine art museums and writing novels. Her passion for foreign languages is strongly influenced by her Ukranien mother and her multicultural family.

  • Caroline Damelincourt

    Caroline Damelincourt is 49 and lives in Montpellier. After gaining a degree in English (via distance learning) she is now studying for a Masters in Anglophone Studies. She lived in Ireland for 3 years, Guadeloupe for 1 year, Greece for 6 months and the USA for 3 months. This, and her passion for other cultures, led her to return to studying (and ultimately to university) in order to learn more about the world. The field of Translation immerses us into other societies and cultures and hence Caroline’s choice of academic path. Her interest in the SAAM Project will enable Caroline to practise and to develop her skills to be able to translate as well as possible.

  • Charlotte Roger

    Charlotte lives in Saint-Malo and is 34 years old. She has worked as a physiotherapist in France for elven years and now she is in the process of changing careers and working towards becoming a translator. She is lucky to have an adorable five-month-old son. She enjoys sports of all kinds, cinema, reading and travelling.

  • Chloé Gajewski

    Chloé is a third-year student at the University of Lorraine, where she studies Foreign Languages and Civilisations – English and Spanish. Being immersed in two cultures (Polish and French) since her youth, Chloé remains particularly interested in travelling and foreign languages.
    She decided to join the SAAM Project as she would like to improve her comprehension of and learn more about the world of professional translation. As well as languages, she's also interested in photography and video games.

  • Émilie Muller

    Emilie Muller is a second-year student of Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations in English and Italian. She is 18 years old and is from Nancy, France. She decided to take part in the SAAM project again because she would love to become an audiovisual translator. This will allow her to develop the subtitling and translation skills necessary to succeed in this field. Passionate about audiovisual media and reading, this is the perfect project for her!

  • Héloïse Gagnon

    Héloïse began to take an interest in hieroglyphics at primary school and developed a passion for languages, which led her to learn Nepalese and Japanese, among other languages. She is also an avid reader and takes film photographs. A native French speaker, her first immersion in England at the age of 20 laid the foundations of her English, and her many other travels solidified her knowledge and use of the language. Héloïse is in her first year of a Master's degree in English at the Université de Lorraine Nancy and is taking part in the SAAM project to put her translation skills at the service of associations and to help in any way she can, as well as learning more about the world around her.

  • Imane Baghli

    Imane Baghli is in the first year of her Masters in tourism and translation at the University of Lorraine in Nancy. Originally from Algeria, she is fluent in Arabic and is studying English and Italian at university. She has a degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literatures and Civilisations (LLCER) with a dual culture in English and Italian, and is passionate about writing and translating into French, her mother tongue. She also studied Chinese for three years as a beginner. She has been part of the SAAM project since October 2023 and would like to help it again to develop her audiovisual translation skills and take part in a real collective translation project.

  • Inès Boudahra

    Inès Boudahra is a 3rd year student studying Foreign Language and Literature (English) at the University of Lorraine in Nancy. She completed a year abroad at the University of East Anglia which is where she discovered the SAAM project and where her interes and knowledge in translation deepened. She has always been passionate about languages, and she believes that translation is an excellent tool for uniting people of different cultures. She decided to become a volunteer so that she could work on a joint project that she knew would be both personally and professionally enriching. Outside her studies, she greatly enjoys hiking in the Vosges, art and learning new things!

  • Kiara Holveck

    Kiara is in her second year of her bachelor’s at the University of Lorraine, studying Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations (Bicultural – English and Spanish). She wanted to join the SAAM Project again because she would like to work in the world of translation and cultural exchanges. Kiara is passionate about cinema as well as literature; she also really enjoys cooking. She hopes one day she will be able to study abroad in order to practice the foreign languages she’s studying at university: English, Spanish and Italian.

  • Léa Laurent

    Léa returned to school after two years studying in South Korea. She can speak French and English, and is learning Korean. Having learnt languages from TV series and books, she's more than excited to be joining the SAAM project. She hopes to gain experience in project management and learn new audiovisual skills.

  • Léa Laurut

    Léa is 20 years old and is currently in the final year of her bachelor's degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations in Engish and Spanish (Bilingual and Biculture) at the University of Lorraine. As well as French, English and Spanish, she is also learning Chinese and Swedish. Passionate about books, literature and learning foreign languages, Léa has very quicly become fascinated with translation. This fascination with translation began whilst trying to understand the lyrics in the music she listens to, and this then developed into translating her favourite books. She has already participated in collaborative translation projects. It was thanks to her university that she discovered the SAAM project which offers real experience which will lead to her dream job: a translator. This enriching experience will allow her to develop her translation skills (audiovisual this time), team work skills and time management skills, all whilst working for a great cause.

  • Léa Picaud

    Lea is an International Communications master’s student at the University of Nancy. Having always been passionate about languages and popular culture, she was keen to be involved with the SAAM Project as it combines her personal interests and values with her career plans as a translator. In a world as connected as ours, she believes in the importance of digital accessibility and access to culture and information. When she’s not reading or watching a series, she’s outside watching animals.

  • Léandra Carpentier-Renaux

    Léandra is from Moselle in the north-east of France. After getting her bachelor’s in Foreign Languages, Literature and Culture in English at the University of Lorraine in Nancy, she moved to another field of study. Nonetheless, she has always been passionate about translation and doesn’t hesitate to embark upon new opportunities in this field to gain new experience. She’s been interested in foreign languages for a long time; and she’s also into art. In her spare time, she loves to read and does a lot of DIY projects. She volunteered for the SAAM Project last year, during her third year of her undergraduate studies, and found it very interesting. It enabled her to discover the world of translation in more detail. That’s why this year, even though she isn’t working with languages, she wishes to continue working for the SAAM Project.

  • Lisa Lavallée

    Lisa is French and currently studies at the University of Lorraine. She received her bachelor's degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations in English, and she is currently in the first year of her MA in Tourism and Translation. It is her second year of taking part in the SAAM project, after having really enjoyed her last experience. It also gave her an insight into the world of translation and subtitling, a field in which she would like to work in the future/ Lisa speaks French, Englush and Italian and has always been intereted in travelling and discovering different cultures in the world. As well as languages, Lisa is a musician and singer, likes literature, writing poetry and video games.

  • Lucas Dos Santos

    Lucas is currently in his second year of a master’s degree at the University of Lorraine, and decided to participate in the SAAM Project again, this time as a volunteer. His objectives remain the same: to improve his translation skills and to gain professional work experience, whilst helping others. In his spare time, Lucas loves going to the cinema and playing a variety of video games and every now and then he reads or goes for a run.

  • Lucile Gornet

    Lucile has been studying at the University of Lorraine for several years. After a degree in psychology, she switched to a degree in Applied Foreign Languages, where she mainly studied English and Spanish. She has always loved languages, communicating and coaching. So when she heard about the SAAM project through a presentation in one of her classes, she didn't hesitate in joining. When she was younger, she would often sit in her bedroom, subtitling various media. This is what has allowed her to acquire the level of language skills she has now, and she will always be grateful and motivated by being able to transmit something, beyond the language barrier. So it's with great enthusiasm that she begins her adventure as a volunteer with the SAAM project.

  • Manel Heddam

    Manel is an international student from Algeria in the third year of her degree in Foreign and Regional Literature, Language and Civilisations in English, Translation and Interculturality track. She studied English at the University of Alger II, and then decided to continue her studies at the University of Lorraine in France. Passionate about languages and cultures, she is particularly interested in audiovisual translation and inclusion in the media. She believes that language should never be a barrier to information and culture, and she hopes to bring her skills and enthusiasm to the SAAM project. Manel chose to take part in this project for the learning opportunity which represents her speciality and passion, but above all to help make audiovisual content accessible to as many people as possible.

  • Margot Gille

    Margot is in her final year studying for a Masters in English and Spanish Translation at the University of Nancy. Having previously completed an internship with the SAAM Project, she has decided to continue as a volunteer. Margot is passionate about languages and travelling and hopes to become a translator. Consequently, the SAAM Project is a rewarding opportunity in which to use her skills in the domain of audiovisual translation.

  • Marine Garde

    Marine Garde is 22 years old and is studying her bachelor's degree bilingual-biculture, in English, German and Russian. Passionate about art, music and culture, she has been involved in voluntary projects for a number of years, offering her help to anyone who needs it. She would like to become a translator, so she hopes that taking part in the SAAM project will be the starting point of her career.

  • Marion Hudin

    Marion is a 3rd year student at the University of Lorraine where she studies Languages and Cultures. After having completed a semester at UEA, where she first heard about the SAAM project, she decided to take part in it so that she could gain translation experience. As a big cinema fan, being able to produce her own subtitles seems like a very enriching and fun project.

  • Marion Loridan

    Marion is 25 years old and French. Her passion for foreign languages and cultures led her to study for a Masters in Translation (English, Spanish, French) at the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France. She particularly enjoys history, genealogy, cooking and exploring new countries. Marion chose to be part of this enriching experience and join the SAAM Project to discover audiovisual translation professionally.

  • Natasha Goutt

    Natasha is Franco-British and is in the final year of her Masters in Alnglophone Worlds specialising in Research at the University of Lorraine. She fell in love with linguistics and French as a foreign language during her undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages Literature and Cultures. She intends to become a teacher and is passionate about improving learning for pupils with language difficulties. She has loved languages ever since she was a child, learning Russian at secondary school on her own and then as an option at secondary school. Natasha is delighted to be part of the SAAM project, which will enable her to improve her translation skills and be of use to voluntary organisations. She has volunteered for UNICEF and the Lorraine SPA. In her spare time, she enjoys reading books and horse-riding.

  • Noémie Heberle

    HEBERLE Noémie noemiheberle@gmail.com is in the second year of her degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisations BIlingual-Biculture (France). Noéemie would like to gain experience in translation, a field that she has always been interested in. Hoping to become a translator/interpreter, this project is directly related to her professional goals. As well as translation, her other passions include running, writing and art.

  • Sarah El Omari

    Sarah is a student from the University of Lorraine. She is in the third year of her undergraduate, in which she studies Foreign and Regional Language, Literature and Civilisation. She studies English and Spanish because she has always loved languages. In the future, she would like to work as a translator so that she can help others to communicate despite not speaking the same language. She is also passionate about reading, she could spend all day reading.

  • Sarah Henry

    Sarah is a 25 year old student in the third year of her bachelor's degree in English and Spanish Languages, Literature and Civilisations at the University of Lorraine in France. She is currently on erasmus at the university of Pablo de Olavide in Seville. She has always been intereted in foreign languages and cultures, she she has been fluent in English for several years. She is an avid reader and likes to write in her spare time, and she hopes that one day her passion will lead her to working as a literary translator. She wanted to volunteer for SAAM because not only is it an opportunity to discover a new field of translation, but there is also the possibility of using these skills to help non-profit organisations.

  • Kyara Remmer

    Kyara is a French student in her second year studying Foreign Languages, Literature and Civilisations Bilingual and Bicultural – English and Italian. She decided to volunteer for the SAAM Project to gain experience in subtitling and translation as well as improving her teamwork skills. In her free time, Kyara likes reading, listening to music and watching films, especially musical comedies. Her passion is travelling; she has already visited 15 countries and stayed in the United States for six months. Her dream job is in a publishing house, which strengthens her desire to participate in this amazing project.

  • Louise Auer

    Louise is a 3rd year student at the University of Lorraine at the Nancy Campus. During the third year of her undergraduate, she is completing a translation and interculturality module and is taking part in the SAAM project for the 2024-2025 year so that she is able to begin translating in a professional capacity. In the future, she wishes to become a professional translator and the field of audiovisual translation as well as voluntary translation especially interest her. For her, subtitling is a way of combining the two, as she believes that it makes audio-visual content more accessible. During the academic year 2023-2024, her Erasmus programme took her to Austria where she completed her year abroad, which confirmed to her that translating from German and English is what she wants to do.

  • Alizée Salomon

    Alizée is French and is studying English, Italian and Spanish at the University of Lorraine, with a view to a career in translation. She's taking part in this project because it's a great opportunity for her to develop her translation skills. She loves travelling, cooking and climbing. 

  • Élisa Carmier

    Elisa is a language student at the University of Lorraine. She is studying English and Italian, but her mother tongue is French. Elisa also has some knowledge of Chinese and is learning French sign language. She decided to become a volunteer for the SAAM project to improve her translation skills and put them to good use in the audiovisual sector, but also to do her bit to help make it more accessible. Elisa loves travelling to discover new cultures, baking (and especially tasting), reading historical novels and listening to music of all kinds. She's also a mountain girl who loves snow, skiing and raclette.

  • Clotilde Gougelin

    Clotilde joined the SAAM Project in 2022 as an intern, and continued to give of her time after her internship ended. She enjoys translating and subtitling and thinks that the SAAM Project is a good opportunity to develop her skills and meet new people, as well as discovering new cultures. After completing a degree in English, she decided to continue on to a degree in cultural studies. She is also doing civic service in a community radio station, and hopes to move into the audiovisual world.

  • Alejandra Hernández Gracia

    Alejandra is a 19 year old girl from Spain who is currently studying in the second year of her degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Murcia. Her working languages are Spanish, English and German. She has been interested in learning different languages and their cultures since she was little. Because of this, she loves international literature, travelling, and cultural events. She is very excited to be part of the SAAM project, as it is an incredible experience to gain formal experience for her future career. it also explains why she chose to study translation: to make intercultural communication easier, and to help those who need to be heard.

  • Álvaro Prieto Baeza

    Álvaro is 22 years old and was born in a small village in the northeast of Murcia: Cehegín. Currently studying Translation and Interpreting from French and English at the University of Murcia, he has always been very inquisitive and curious, he took drama classes and participated in athletics competitions. He has always liked languages, because they allowed him to get closer to a completely new world, with different cultures and opinions, and this is why he decided to learn a new language. However, Álvaro also has many other hobbies, including music and reading, as well as being very sociable and extroverted. He is very happy to be part of SAAM, a project that he considers essential and which allows him to carry out non-profit work in his future career field.

  • Ángela Gómez Ríos

    Ángela is 21 years old and is in the final year of her degree in Translation and Interpreting from English and German at the University of Murcia, in the south of Spain. She loves travelling and learning new languages, which for her is a way of learning about new cultures. Last year, she went on Erasmus in Gant (Belgium), so that she could perfect her English and make new friends. Ángela loves sports, mostly going to the gym with her friends. She also enjoys reading and going to the cinema, she also loves translating books and subtitling films and series. She is very happy to join the SAAM project, she sees it as a great opportunity to learn and to help.

  • Blanca Conte Guitiérrez

    Blanca is 20 years old and studies Translation and Interpreting, specialising in English and German with additional knowledge in French. She has always been passionate about languages and discovering new cultures. Currently, she wants to learn subtitling techniques and gain practical experience in audiovisual translation. Outside of university, Blanca enjoys watching films, reading and listening to music.

  • Claudia Carreres Pérez

    Claudia is 21 years old and is finishing her degree in Translation and Interpretation at the University of Murcia. After doing her Erasmus at UEA, teaching a subtitling and dubbing module, and discovering SAAM project, she realised that subtitling could be a very interesting career choice for her. Therefore, when she returned to Spain, she decided to carry on being involved with the project as a coordinator. Claudia believes that this project is an incredible opportunity to do her bit for society. Claudia is extremely interested in this field and hopes that continuing to be part of SAAM will give her the opportunity to get to know the world on a deeper level, to continue in this field as a professional, and to gain experience.

  • Elena López Cano

    Elena is from Spain and studies Translation and Interpreting, although currently she is spending her third year in Leipzig, Germany. She speaks Spanish, English and German, but wants to learn more languages in the future such as French or Japonese. She wanted to participate in the SAAM project because she is interested in audiovisual translation and she likes the fact that she can help others with the project. She would like this experience to help her learn more about the industry of audiovisual translation, meet new people and learn about new cultures. In her spare time. she likes to watch films, listen to music and be creative.

  • Julia García Zamora

    Julia is 21 years old and is in the 4th year of her undergraduate in Translation and interpreting at the University of Murcia. During her 3rd year, she completed her Erasmus in Liège in Belgium, where she really improved her French. The experience was without a doubt very enriching and encouraged her to make the most of grants, workshops and new projects as part of both her professional training and personal interest. She discovered the SAAM Project in October 2024 and, after starting a course in Audiovisual Translation at university, she became interested in subtitling. Therefore, in January 2025, she decided to join the project as a volunteer.

  • Laura García Montesinos

    Laura is a 21-year-old girl from Spain who is studying Translation and Interpreting from English and French. Last year she did her Erasmus+ stay at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, where she also had the opportunity to learn some of the local language. Languages have always been her passion, as she believes that building bridges between people and getting to know cultures and traditions different from those around us is important. When she is not reading, she likes to maintain an active lifestyle, listen to new music and go out with her friends. She is excited about working on the SAAM project as she considers it a great opportunity to do her bit to help in their work, as well as being able to learn a new discipline that can help her with new job opportunities.

  • Luisa Mª Ortega Asensio

    Luisa is a 21-year-old girl who lives in a small town in Murcia: Pliego. Currently she is studying Translation and Interpretating from English and French at the University of Murcia. Since she was little, she has had a very active lifestyle, with activities like karate or jota (a traditional Spanish dance). She has always been fascinated by languages, as they have opened the door to cultures and perspectives that are different from her own. So, and with the unconditional support of her parents, she decided to throw herself into learning these languages, and does not rule out learning more. Luisa also has many other passions, like music, and she is a fairly shy girl. Overall, she’s very excited to be part of the SAAM project, which allows her to carry out essential work and will help her in the future.

  • María Alpiste García

    María is a final year student of Translation and Interpreting, with a keen interest in languages and communication. She is currently studying Audiovisual Translation at the University of Murcia, where she has discovered her passion for subtitling as a key tool to make audiovisual content accessible to a wider audience. Her enthusiasm for languages and the possibility of breaking language barriers has led her to participate as a volunteer in the SAAM Project. Through this experience, she seeks to develop her skills in audiovisual translation and reinforce her commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

  • Paula Gil Serrano

    Paula is 21-year-old Spanish girl, in her final year of Translation and Interpretation from English and French at the University of Murcia. In addition, she’s finished her third year at the University of Strasburg, which allowed her to meet many people from other cultures and to start studying Italian, a language she feels she has a certain weakness with and that she hopes she can return to soon. Paula also has interests outside of languages, she loves reading, musicals, and spending time with loved ones. She’s very excited to be part of the SAAM project and is looking forward to meeting the rest of the volunteers, as she believes their work will be very enriching for her, both personally and professionally.

  • Sara Bermejo Lucas

    Sara is 19 years old and studies Translation and Interpreting, specialising in English and French, although she has always been passionate about learning other languages. From the first time she heard about the SAAM project, she saw it as an opportunity to experiment with subtitles, whilst contributing to a more inclusive environment. In her spare time, she loves eatching series or films, reading, crafting or listening to music.

  • Sofia Abellán Pérez

    Sofia studies Translation and Interpretation from English and French at the University of Murcia, in Spain. Since she was a child, her dream has always been to see the world and live in other countries to immerse herself within their cultures. This is why she ended up living in Canada for one year, and another in France. Currently she speaks English, French and a little bit of Italian. She is a very ambitious girl and always wants to learn new things. In her free time, she enjoys reading and playing sports. She likes to go out running and to play tennis with her friends. Sofia wanted to take part in this project because she believes it is an ideal opportunity to practice her translation skills and to begin to figure out her professional career within language study.

  • Susana López Sampedro

    Susana is a 21-year-old girl from Murcia who loves languages. She is currently studying her fourth year of Translation and Interpretation from English and French at the University of Murcia. She did her third year at a university in the North of France and her first year of high school in Canada with a scholarship. Thanks to all this, she has been able to travel and learn about different cultures, and she cannot get enough. As a child, she spent much of her time practicing judo and playing with her friends. She loves to read, listen to her favourite singers, and travel and see the world. She is really looking forward to being part of the SAAM project and to able to do her own part.

  • Sara Martínez Mármol

    Sara studies Translation and Interpreting at the University of Murcia. She has always been drawn to learning languages and about their respective cultures. She completed a year on Erasmus in Leipzig, where her love for German grew. She also studies English, which is why she decided to take part in the SAAM project. Sara believes that it is an amazing opportunity to increase her subtitling knoweldge and is hoping to be able to help as a volunteer.
